Italian Carlo Ancelotti spoke to reporters after the 2-2 draw with Mexican club Club America in the match that was held between them at dawn today (Mecca time) in the team’s second friendly match in the United States of America in preparation for the new season.
Ancelotti played the two halves of the match with two different formations, in the first half Ferland Mendy occupied the left-back, while in the second half David Alaba entered and occupied the same position after the departure of the French full-back.
Real Madrid’s defense line, which crowned the Champions League, the League and the Spanish Super Cup last season, was composed of: Militao and David Alaba as two defenders, with Nach entering as an alternative in the absence of one of them, Ferland Mendy as a left back and Carvajal as a right back with Lucas Vazquez as his replacement.
After signing German Antonio Rudiger, coming from Chelsea in a free-squatting deal after the expiration of his contract with the Blues, the Italian coach has a dilemma in the defense line, especially in the left-back position.
Spanish newspapers confirmed that Ancelotti decided to put David Alaba in the left-back position, the same position he played with Bayern Munich before, with Ferland Mendy as a substitute with Militao and Rudiger as defense heart. The Italian himself confirmed that before the Las Vegas Clasico and made it clear that he would try that drawing.
Real Madrid entered the Clasico with this drawing already, but the result was not satisfactory, as it lost with a clean goal against Barcelona, who appeared better and controlled the course of the match.
Today after the Club America match, Ancelotti surrendered to Ferland Mendy and confirmed that he would be the key player in the left-back position as he said: “It was necessary to have him in his position because I wanted to experience Rudiger in the center of defence. The main left-back is Mendy, but if there is a problem Rudiger and Alaba can play in his place. Alaba is more offensive and Rudiger is more defensive.”
