Four of the five loaned last season to Real Madrid will return to white-team training…but only two have a place in Madrid’s first-team squad.
Mayoral (25), Odriozola (26), Kubo (21) and Reinier (20) should be back in training at Valdebebas all this week, but only two of them have room to stay in the 2022-23 season. The fifth, Brahim Diaz (22), will continue for another season in Milan, where he will play in the Champions League after winning the league title after an absence of eleven seasons.
But only Mayoral and Odriozola will remain in Ancelotti’s squad. The first, as an obvious replacement for Benzema, after Jovic’s departure to Fiorentina. Mariano Diaz was relegated to just a figure remaining in the final year of his contract with the white team.
The good work done by Mayoral at both Rome and Getafe sapped Ancelotti, who was looking for a suitable replacement when Karim Benzema needed a break.
This season, Real Madrid will play six competitions (League, Champions, Cup, Club World Cup, Spanish and European Super Cup), in addition to the World Cup in the middle of the season (to be held from November to December), and it will be stimulating. Ancelotti should rotate the squad more than last season.
For this reason, Alvaro Odriozola will also stay, returning to Madrid after his second experience abroad (he played for Bayern in the 2019-20 season). His task is to be a substitute for Carvajal on the right, which will restore Lucas Vazquez to his position as a striker on the right: the departure of Bale, as well as the possible departure of Asensio (he did not accept the first renewal offer of Real Madrid).
What happened last year leads us to believe that Vazquez could exchange this position for Valverde. Hence the need for a replacement for Carvajal, who ended up shining last season (as evidenced by his ability to stop Luis Diaz’s threat in the Champions League final).
On the other side are the figures of Kubo and Renner appear. Both are projects of great players who have faced a bureaucratic problem to continue in the white team: both are from outside Spain and Madrid already have these three places with three great players: Vinicius (21), Rodrygo (21) and Militao (24).
The Japanese is getting attention from Real Sociedad, but it will be his fifth loan since his signing: Mallorca (twice), Villarreal and Getafe. Real Madrid want him to play in a good team to develop himself.
For his part, Reinier is on Spanish soil awaiting the end of his new loan (Benfica is the team he was most interested in) after spending two seasons playing with Borussia Dortmund, without much success.
