Toni Kroos’ future with Real Madrid may end in June 2023, when his current contract with the madridista expires. According to “Cadena Ser”, the German rejected the white club’s attempts to extend the current contract between the two parties. Kroos prefers to wait and see how next year goes, a decision that has surprised Real Madrid according to this information.
The 32-year-old midfielder has already warned on various occasions that his next potential renewal will depend on how he sees him and what he can offer Real Madrid. In this sense, Cadena Ser asserts that the idea conveyed by the player to the entity is that he does not want to be a burden on future sports planning.
This situation could be due to the way Real Madrid have consolidated their midfield for two consecutive years with two youngsters (Camavinga in 2021 and Xwamini now) with a lot of football in front of them and the new look that Real Madrid are looking for. Also general promotions for Fede Valverde, whose contract has been renewed until 2027 although his previous contract was due to expire in 2025.
Kroos has had a happy season in terms of titles but with some personal ups and downs. It started with an injury problem that ended with him being forced to miss the first eight matches of the season and gradually losing his place in midfield.
It culminated in the second leg against Chelsea, in April, when he was substituted in the 72nd minute and the Blues were 0-2 ahead on the scoreboard. At that moment, the cameras filmed the German very angry with his coach over the change.
Real Madrid, although surprised by the German’s decision, they respect him. The club continues to pay great respects to the player who has won four Champions Leagues in the white shirt since he signed for the club in 2014 from Bayern Munich for 25 million.
