Ancelotti led Real Madrid to their 35th La Liga title before defeating Liverpool in the Champions League final during an impressive season. But they failed to sign Kylian Mbappe, who opted to extend his contract by three years with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
This means he will not join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, as many have speculated, with speculation that he has given his word to the Spanish giants that he will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu. It comes less than a year after the French club rejected a record transfer offer from Los Blancos for the striker, whose previous contract at Parc des Princes was due to expire on June 30.
Real Madrid is now looking for alternatives in attack, and Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is well liked at the Royal Club. President Florentino Perez and general manager Jose Angel Sanchez have other options to sign this summer, but Ancelotti is pressing hard for the player.
When the Brazilian joined City in January 2017, he also attracted strong interest from Real Madrid – led by Perez and Sanchez – and Bayern Munich, who were coached by Ancelotti at the time. The Italian has kept a huge interest in the player ever since.
Jesus is about to enter the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium and the club is ready to cash in on him this summer. Strikers Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez have already signed for Manchester City this summer, which has pushed the Brazilian down the rankings at the club.
The 25-year-old started just 21 Premier League games last season and has never started more than 22 Premier League games in a single season, which made him want more first-team matches. A move to Real Madrid would link him with fellow Brazilians Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and Eder Militao.
Reports from Spain have now highlighted how Real Madrid’s interest in the striker is real and they see him as an option to join their squad next summer. This would derail the plans of Arsenal who are keen to include Jesus in their ranks, with Eddie Nketea the only good striker in their first team.
Jesus joined City from Brazilian club Palmeiras in 2017 and scored 95 goals in 236 first-team appearances. However, despite Sergio Aguero’s exit and no immediate investment in the club’s striker position, he has failed to secure an undisputed key role in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
