Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, entered the dressing room after the last La Liga game of the season against Real Betis to tell his players Kylian Mbappe’s position on joining them, according to reports.
The Champions League finalists failed with a £154m final bid for the Ligue 1 top scorer at the end of last summer’s transfer window, leading to a season of speculation that Mbappe will move to Madrid when his contract expires this summer.
Mbappe’s mother, Faiza Al-Amari, said on Friday that the 23-year-old had ended discussions with both clubs over “almost identical” offers.
Perez told Carlo Ancelotti’s side that Mbappe is not joining Real Madrid after their 0-0 draw at the Bernabeu against Real Betis on Friday, Spanish football expert Guillem Balage claims he has been told by a source.
The journalist and broadcaster appears to suggest that both Madrid and PSG were willing to pay Mbappe a €150m fee – around £126.7m – along with wages and bonuses.
A report on Thursday said the French champions had offered Mbappe £4m a month and “full control” of the club’s sporting enterprise.
The 2018 World Cup winner was anxious about his future on Sunday amid allegations he is close to joining Madrid on a five-year deal.
The former Monaco striker told Marca: “I can’t speak about my future but you will know very soon… It’s almost settled. This is not the right moment but yes, yes … my decision is about to expire’.
Then Mbappe’s mother said: “We have now reached an agreement with both Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and the discussions are over because it is Kylian who has to choose now. The two widths are nearly identical. At Real Madrid, my son will control his image rights and we will now wait for his decision.”
She added: “In the Real Madrid offer we have the full power of image rights, and on the other hand there is an economic balance that equals this thing. In short, there is no difference between the two – they are the same.”
PSG completed the permanent signing of Mbappe for £166m in 2018 after spending a season on loan at Monaco.
The second most expensive player in history after his colleague Neymar, Mbappe scored 25 goals and provided 17 assists to win Paris Saint-Germain the Premier League this season.
Mauricio Pochettino was knocked out of the Champions League last 16 in a dramatic way by Real Madrid.
Karim Benzema scored three goals in the last 29 minutes of the match at the Bernabeu to seal a 2-0 lead for Paris Saint-Germain on aggregate thanks to Mbappe’s goals in both legs.
