Liverpool fans were nervous when Mohamed Salah was forced off the field with an injury just 30 minutes into the Reds’ FA Cup final victory over Chelsea on Saturday. Then their fears were exacerbated when Virgil van Dijk was substituted before extra time.
But Jurgen Klopp, having seen his side get the job done by beating Chelsea on penalties for the second time at Wembley this season, remains optimistic about their circumstances.
Klopp told ITV when asked about Salah’s injury: “Mo came and said he could continue, but he felt a little pain. I hope he is fine”.
Van Dijk, who did not play more than the first 90 minutes, was the subject of questions asked to Klopp after the match.
Klopp admitted: “He was having minor problems” before saying he thought the Dutchman was “fine” and would be back on the pitch again this season.
Van Dijk provides injury update
Van Dijk himself was asked about his condition and he also remained relatively optimistic and said: “I hope I’m fine, we’ll check it out. I felt it in the first half when I ran. I felt a tingling behind my knee, but I played.”
He concluded: “In the end, I cannot risk the team and I need to trust players like Joel Matip. I hope it is all right.”
