Barcelona approached the signing of Robert Lewandowski, especially after the news from Germany that the veteran Polish striker informed the Bayern Munich club that he wanted to leave and not complete the term of his contract, which will expire in June 2023. The deal was not welcomed by many Barcelona fans due to the age of the 33-year-old player.
Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez, did not want to talk about specific names about signings but he made a few things clear. Especially when they asked him about Lewandowski and he explained that he did not care about age.
“Age is not important,” Xavi said at the press conference. I signed Dani Alves and it went well. Players today take great care of themselves. They have nutritionists, they work hard and take care of themselves. Look at Modric, Ibrahimovic and Alves himself.”
Xavi noted, “What matters to us when signing is that they have quality and can give us a performance. Age is not a priority for us, but performance on the field is the most important.”
Regarding signing the striker position as a priority, Xavi noted, “I have made it clear what I want for the next season to achieve maximum performance and then we will see what can be done or not. Not all goals have been achieved and this is the time to improve the team.”
