De Bruyne: “It’s easier to watch Real Madrid than watching a third-tier team”

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne spoke to the media ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final that Real Madrid will face at the Santiago Bernabeu. The confrontation that the Belgian player reached after recovering from his last injury. He has spoken about this and admitted that “these have been very difficult months because I have never felt this much pain before.”

On his confrontation with Real Madrid: “They are two teams that want to attack, but tomorrow the match starts 0-0 and we have to be ready. The perspective will not change as a player. We always want to win this cup. We’ve struggled for years “It’s a high-level tournament. Winning will change the story. I’m aware of what I’ve done in my career and I’m happy with what I’ve achieved, but I want to win whatever competition I’m in.”

2016 match: “We are now better than that year. We didn’t finish that season well. Real Madrid was the superpower at the time and we are a different team. It was the first semi-final for City in its history and now we are more experienced.”

“With Guardiola, there is confidence to win. No matter the match, we are always fully prepared. It is easier to watch Real Madrid on TV than to watch a third-tier team, but we deal with the details in the same way.”

Guardiola and his impact: “He helped me develop as a player, but I don’t know if it would be the same with other coaches. He’s done great things but we players also want to improve. I was fortunate enough to meet a coach who has the same taste and style of football as I do. I’ve always played in the same place on the pitch, but I do what the team needs and I’m comfortable.”

Best version of De Bruyne: “These have been very difficult months because I have never felt so much pain before. Once the pain was gone, I started to feel more normal. My body was as it should be. I feel on the same level as before. I don’t know if I’m at a higher level than before.”

City and its position in Europe: “We are on the right track. We didn’t win the title and that’s the only criticism we can receive. We always try but we need to go one step further tomorrow.”

Foden offers: “It’s unbelievable. I’ve known him since he was almost a child. When you move to the first team you need time to adapt but now you can see how he plays. He’s not a little talented, he’s one of the City players who can decide the win. He always does what he has to do.”

Gabriel Jesus’ great moment: “When I gave him a penalty, I always told him I trusted him. He has a great streak, we have a good switching relationship, we can always meet. Lots of energy and still young. We must not forget this.”

City, the best team in the world: “If we play like last week, we have the potential to be the best. But Real Madrid can win because they are also one of the best. I have faith in my team and I am convinced that we can do our best tomorrow.”
