Last night, something changed for Dani Ceballos. In Pamplona, he played 71 minutes against Osasuna, the most minutes he has played so far in a game in the 2021-2022 season. The most minutes he played until this match was 20 against Valencia in the 20th round of the league.
A large part of Ceballos’ season has been absent due to an injury sustained at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo. But he has not had Carlo Ancelotti’s confidence since he recovered.
So much so that even before yesterday against Osasuna, he played only 104 minutes this season spread over seven league matches, two cup matches and two Champions League matches. Then with the minutes he played last night, the total is already 175. Regarding the league championship, Ceballos only played until yesterday in seven out of 32 matches in the league.
Ceballos returned to the call-up in the 18th round against Cadiz and since then his greatest role was in the 20th round of the league when he participated in those 20 minutes against Valencia. He had another 15 minutes in the 31st round against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu. In the rest he had barely participated 5 minutes against Celta, 3 minutes against Granada, 2 minutes against Rayo Vallecano and 8 against Alaves and Real Sociedad.
With what was played last night, it comes to a total of 132 minutes out of a total of 2970 minutes available to play. This represents only 4.4% of the total minutes played by the white club in the league.
Ceballos’ presence is completed by 34 minutes in the cup, divided into 4 minutes against Alquiano and 30 against Elche, and only nine minutes in the Champions League, divided into five minutes in the first leg and another five minutes in the second leg against Chelsea from London.
Ceballos has never played in the Super Cup twice. This means that he has only participated in 12 of the 50 matches Real Madrid has played so far this season. Which represents 24% of all matches.
This change of direction means that Ceballos can take advantage of the FIFA standard to be able to unilaterally terminate his contract with Real Madrid and find a destination without waiting for what the White Club decides. Because in the event that he does not participate in 10% of the total matches played by the entire white team, he can take advantage of this law contained in the FIFA regulations and this leaves the choice to football players who have a marginal role in their clubs.
This was stated in Article 15 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, which states the following: “A professional player who participates during the season in less than 10% of the official matches played by his club may terminate his contract prematurely under the pretext of a just sporting reason. In examining these cases, the player’s circumstances will be duly considered. A just mathematical reason will be proven individually in each case. In such a case, no sporting sanctions will be imposed, although compensation may be sought, a professional player may terminate his contract on this basis within 15 days of his last official match of the season with the club in which he is registered.
Obviously, after what happened last night, this exit plan was practically closed to Ceballos because after the minutes he played against Osasuna he could miss the 10%, even if he did not participate almost in the remaining five games of the league and the minimum of two games, which Could be three, into the Champions League.
