Courtois sends a stern warning to his Real Madrid teammates: “They will punish us”

Thibaut Courtois was instrumental in Real Madrid’s difficult 2-1 away win over Celta Vigo and put in another impressive performance to help Los Blancos secure the three points.

The Belgian goalkeeper saved two big chances in the first half to deny Denis Suarez the lead and Iago Aspas from a free kick after Real Madrid advanced.

“We suffered, all the matches I played in Vigo were very difficult,” Courtois told Movistar. I don’t know if we deserved to win because I saved twice in the first half.”

Warning

Courtois also stressed that Real Madrid tend to lack sharpness at times during the match and warned that Chelsea could punish them at Stamford Bridge.

He added: “Celta moves the ball well, it is very strong and in the first half we did not press well. They could always play and it was a bit complicated for us.”

He continued, “Winning was very important. Chelsea lost at home and will be very strong on Wednesday. Sometimes we lack strength and Chelsea are very good at that.”

Controversy erupted after Real Madrid were awarded three penalties at the Palidos Stadium, but Courtois believes the referee made the right decisions.

He pointed out that “the three mistakes are correct penalty kicks. The first and second, yes. Perhaps the third is the one I couldn’t see clearly from where I was…”
