On the sidelines of a promotional event with one of his sponsors, Neymar admitted that he lived through difficult days after Paris Saint-Germain’s exit against Real Madrid in the Champions League. He claims that he nonetheless struggled to go back in time.
Neymar spoke, Thursday, on the sidelines of an event organized by one of his sponsors. The Brazilian admitted that he was affected by the exclusion of Paris Saint-Germain by Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League, but also the whistles he was subjected to from the Parc des Princes fans, last Sunday against Bordeaux.
Neymar said: “It was complicated days, complicated weeks for us, we didn’t want to lose. We’re not here for that, we didn’t do it on purpose. Nobody raised their feet. Quite the opposite. We devoted ourselves, committed ourselves and trained to strive for qualification. I came back from an injury and gave my life to be present in that moment. Even if it means losing, but at least it will be with the team.”
Neymar added: “The life of an athlete is like this, and it must continue. One day, there you are, you lost the match, but you can reverse everything in no time. Football is loved for that.”
The former Barcelona player had embarked on a time trial to get back in time to play the first leg after suffering a severe left ankle sprain on November 28. After two and a half months of absence, he managed to play the last quarter of an hour of the first match, which Paris won (1-0).
He played the entire second leg with the help of Kylian Mbappe. But PSG finally bowed, saying goodbye to the competition. Four days after the fans’ attack in the Parc des Princes against Bordeaux (3-0), the Brazilian traveled to Barcelona to meet his son there.
He has posted messages on social networks in which he revels in his happiness to find his loved ones. “Nice to see you all so well and happy,” he wrote, “that’s what moves me and keeps me going.”
