Karim Benzema scored two goals in Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Espanyol in the match that took place between the two teams on Sunday evening at Cornella Alberta Stadium in Barcelona, in the third round of the Spanish League.
Real Madrid is at the top of the La Liga standings, accompanied by Real Betis, with 9 points, after achieving the third victory in a row. Ancelotti’s men beat Almeria in the first round with two goals, then crushed Celta Vigo 4-1 before turning the equalizer into a victory in the last minutes against the stubborn Espanyol.
There is another conflict that appears to be more fierce than the league itself. Karim Benzema, top scorer in the previous edition of the tournament with 27 goals, will find fierce competition this season with one of the best strikers in Europe over the past decade: Robert Lewandowski, the new Barcelona star who has scored 4 goals so far.
